The Flower of Scotland is a 22ft long streamliner, built specifically for racing on Salt with aluminium disk wheels and a 1-litre turbocharged and supercharged Kawasaki motor generating in the region of 700bhp. The cockpit boasts two parachute levers, three fire extinguisher levers, an infra-red television screen in case of methanol fire in the engine bay, steering wheel and a one-way gearchange air-shift button.

The car was based on an American prototype and rebuilt over a five year period by Derek Palmer's team in Scotland.

Speed Scotland will be the first Scottish team to attempt to break the World Land Speed Record in the one litre Supercharged Class at the Bonneville Speed Week In August this year. Hopefully it will be third time lucky for the Scottish team, where they hope to crack 320mph and walk off with the land speed record. The current record is 315mph. Attempt number one achieved 250mph, before the gears gave out and attempt number two was good for 275mph, but the gearbox casing started breaking up under the tremendous horsepower the engine was delivering.

Speed Scotland is headed by Derek Palmer, legendary team boss of Promotorsport, the 2001 European Touring Car privateer Champions. Consisting of a band of volunteers they have prepared the 'Flower' for this year’s attempt in their spare time, seeing her safely in her crate for the voyage to Bonneville at the end of July.

Rick Pearson is the 'Flower's first driver and is an experienced ex-professional race driver, Robert Gilmour, who also drives for Derek was former British Karting champion and is the team's second driver.

Rick races on the salt in a 7 layer fireproof NOMEX race suit which is designed to look like a Tuxedo/Dinner suit including FIA approved bow-tie!
