Old bikes go digital
By: Web Editor
HANDS up all those who’ve been waiting for a proper website for classic bike enthusiasts? Well, the biggest and best classic bike website ever devised is now up and running!
Classic Bikers Club – www.classicbikersclub.com – is made by the people behind many of your favourite magazines (such as MCM and sister titles Classic Motorcycle Mechanics and Classic Bike Guide), and is packed with detailed road tests, buying guides and features on the machines that fuel our passions from the 1890s right through to the 1990s.
The content on classicbikersclub.com is sourced from archive copies of The Motorcycle and Motorcycling going back more than 100 years, as well as back issues of The Classic MotorCycle, Classic Motorcycle Mechanics, Classic Dirt Bike, Classic Racer, Real Classic, Old Bike Mart and Classic Bike Guide.
The site is split into easily navigable sections for prewar British machines, postwar British, Japanese classics, American and European.
Mortons group editor Steve Rose explains the idea behind it: “The biggest frustration for passionate magazine makers such as ourselves is that you put your heart and soul into making the best possible issue and it exists, like a butterfly, for just 30 days on the shelves of newsagents before disappearing forever.
“There’s so much amazing material – researched in great detail, exquisitely photographed and written with the heart and soul of genuine enthusiasts – and it was just sitting there in our archive, never to be seen again.
“We wanted to give it an outlet, a chance to breathe again. And in addition to the stuff from our current magazines, we wanted to make historic articles and images available from the Mortons archive – widely acknowledged to be the best motorcycle archive in Europe, if not the world.
“Plus, there’s an enormous reference and practical section, available exclusively to subscribers of Mortons titles. If you are a subscriber, you’ll be receiving your membership card shortly. If not, then the additional benefits of being in the Classic Bikers Club (not just the additional web content but a raft of money-saving offers too) mean it’s well worth taking out a subscription to one of those brilliant titles.
“But classicbikersclub.com is much more than just an archive. There’s a whole load of modern takes on classic motorcycling on there too, including video footage and news. There are expert forums for help and advice too.”
For FULL, FREE membership that gives you access to all of the content on the site then just renew or take out a new subscription to one of our great motorcycle titles – there are 12 to choose from, and prices start at under a tenner. Go to www.classicmagazines.co.uk for more details.
What is the Classic Bikers Club?
