I’m writing with reference to last month’s article on the new Ducati Multistrada. The bike certainly sounds like a great machine, but I’m convinced that without the electronics it would not be possible to make such a bike...
...I’m also very sceptical about the reliability of modern electronic equipment. Technically it’s excellent, but as most stuff is made down to a cost I am fearful of its reliability. I’ve seen too many domestic appliances scrapped after a life of less than five years because the poorly made electronic parts have failed. I don’t know what it’s like in vehicles generally but I’m sure someone does.
If this Multistrada breaks down, what are the chances of fixing it by the roadside? I’m sure it’s a good bike, but I just don’t trust a lot of these electronic gadgets.
Bike electronics have come a long way in the last few years, and they certainly help make machines like the Multistrada possible. Technology waits for no man, and we live in an age where new bikes are plug ’n’ play. Only time will tell if the electronics are indeed wizardry...
